Reaction Scheme

Experiment start time: 0840 EST 21/09/11
[ulr=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycolic_acid]Glycolic acid[/url] (2.05 g, 27.0 mmol, 1 equiv.) was stirred in acetone (40 mL) with a few crystals of p-TSA for 1 hour. NaHCO3 (approx 1 g) was added and dried (MgSO4) before filtration and partially concentration to a colourless oil. 1H NMR consistant with acetonide/glycolic acid and acetone in approx. 1:2.4:11.8. Used without further purification.
