Hydrolysis of Ethyl-2-bromopropionate to give Ethyl-2-bromopropanoic acid as a starting material to synthesise 2-bromopropionamide.

Reaction start time: 3:00 PM EST 19/11/12
Ethyl-2-bromopropionate (3 mL, 16.6 mmol, 1 equiv.) was mixed in EtOH (10 mL), then 20% NaOH(aq) (25 mL, 150 mmol, 9 equiv.) was added and the reaction was stirred at room temperature overnight.
