A test reaction to see if the substitution of chloropyrazine with hydrazine (performed previously) is compatible with the presence of an ester. If this reaction is successful, cyclisation will be attempted using the conditions found in TM 37.

ethyl 6-chloropyrazine-2-carboxylate (Synthesis of ethyl 6-chloropyrazine-2-carboxylate (TM 53-1, 780 mg, 4.20 mmol) was dissolved in EtOH (5 mL), and hydrazine hydrate (0.63 g, 12.6 mmol, ~3 eq) added. A yellow solid crashed out of solution on addition (product?), and the reaction mixture was heated at reflux (bath temp 80 oC) for ?? h.
